Why attend this workshop?
A common challenge in EMDR therapy arises when clients initially express a desire to reprocess trauma but later show signs of avoidance or ambivalence. Often, this stems from unresolved internal conflicts among parts. Integrating parts work into EMDR Therapy can be a transformative way to address these challenges.
While parts work is frequently linked to dissociative disorders, it is effective for a wide range of clients. Those experiencing internal conflict, shame, low self-worth, fear of change, ambivalence, avoidance, affect phobia, or compulsive behaviours can all benefit from parts-oriented interventions. Parts work helps stabilise clients, reduce shame and internal phobias, and bring resistant parts 'on board' with the therapy process. By fostering collaboration among parts, clients can develop a healthier internal relationship, increase self-acceptance and self-compassion, overcome maladaptive behaviours, and engage more fully and safely in EMDR trauma reprocessing.
What you’ll learn
You will learn how to effectively integrate parts work with EMDR Therapy to support trauma reprocessing and address common blocks when working with complex and dissociative clients. The focus is on working with parts in a non-pathologising, affirming manner. Key topics include:
• The theory of structural dissociation of the personality
• Using parts work for dissociative and non-dissociative clients alike
• Fraser’s Dissociative Table Technique
• Working therapeutically with dissociative parts, voices and phobias
• Parts interventions to address internal conflict, avoidance and ambivalence
• Creatively weaving parts work across all phases of EMDR Therapy
• 'Micro processing' interventions to enable safe trauma reprocessing with dissociative clients.
