EMDR Therapy for Attachment Trauma
Presented by Caroline Burrows
EMDRAA Accredited EMDR Trainer & Consultant
Why attend this workshop?
EMDR therapists often ask, "What comes next?" after completing basic EMDR training. This advanced workshop fills the gap between foundational EMDR knowledge and advanced clinical practice, helping you move from basic proficiency to a higher level of EMDR skill.
Many EMDR therapists face complex cases where the standard protocol isn’t enough to resolve attachment, pre-verbal, or implicit trauma. Questions about targeting omission trauma, working with clients who lack adaptive information, and managing defences are common in EMDR consultation. Drawing from both attachment theory and the AIP model, Caroline will guide you through techniques for addressing these complex cases with greater nuance and confidence.
This workshop builds on the solid foundation provided in EMDR Basic Training, bridging the space between the ‘rules’ of the EMDR standard protocol and the realities of clinical practice. It will give you the confidence to artfully adapt EMDR techniques to meet clients’ unique needs when working with attachment trauma.
Completion of basic training 1 is required to attend the EMDR Therapy for Attachment Trauma Workshop.
What you’ll learn: Advanced skills for complex cases
EMDR Therapy, originally designed for overt trauma, requires a more nuanced approach when addressing attachment trauma. For these clients, it’s not just about what they need ‘less of’ (i.e., painful memories to be reprocessed) but also what they need ‘more of’ (i.e., internalised safety, self-worth, and self-compassion), due to a lack of attunement, validation, and nurturance in their formative childhood years.
In this advanced workshop, you’ll refine your skills in target selection for attachment and omission trauma and learn how to help clients build adaptive information through attachment-focused resourcing and repair work. This work not only prepares clients to safely and effectively reprocess trauma but also provides inherent reparative benefits.

EMDR Therapy and Parts Work
Presented by Caroline Burrows
EMDRAA Accredited EMDR Trainer & Consultant
Why attend this workshop?
A common challenge in EMDR therapy arises when clients initially express a desire to reprocess trauma but later exhibit signs of avoidance or ambivalence. Often, these responses stem from unresolved internal conflicts among parts. Integrating parts work into EMDR Therapy can be a transformative way to address these challenges.
While parts work is frequently linked to dissociative disorders, it is effective for a wide range of clients. Those experiencing internal conflict, shame, low self-worth, fear of change, ambivalence, avoidance, affect phobia, or compulsive behaviours can all benefit from parts-oriented interventions. Parts work helps stabilise clients, reduce shame and internal phobias, and bring resistant parts 'on board' with the therapy process. By fostering collaboration among parts, clients can develop a healthier internal relationship, increase self-acceptance and self-compassion, overcome maladaptive behaviours, and engage more fully and safely in EMDR trauma reprocessing.
Completion of basic training 1 & 2 is required to attend the EMDR Therapy and Parts Work workshop.
What you’ll learn
In this advanced workshop, you will learn how to effectively integrate parts work with EMDR Therapy to support trauma reprocessing and address common blocks when working with complex and dissociative clients. The focus is on working with parts in a non-pathologising, affirming manner. Key topics include:
- The theory of structural dissociation of the personality
- Using parts work for dissociative and non-dissociative clients alike
- Fraser’s Dissociative Table Technique
- Working therapeutically with dissociative parts, voices and phobias
- Parts interventions to address internal conflict, avoidance and ambivalence
- Creatively weaving parts work across all phases of EMDR Therapy
- 'Micro processing' interventions to enable safe trauma reprocessing with dissociative clients.
