Somatic Experiencing (SE™) aims to resolve symptoms of stress, shock, and trauma that accumulate in our bodies and nervous systems. Trauma, from an SE lens, is focused on how it shows up in the nervous system and how that dysregulation impacts life. SE is a pioneering body-oriented approach to relieving the physical, psychological, emotional and physiological effects of acute and chronic stress, PTSD and developmental attachment trauma. It is based on a multidisciplinary intersection of physiology, psychology, ethology, biology, neuroscience, indigenous healing practices, and medical biophysics and has been clinically applied for more than four decades. It is the life’s work of Dr. Peter A. Levine.
Structured in three levels over about three years, the Somatic Experiencing® Professional Training is not only about incorporating knowledge. It is an in-depth learning process where theory, practice and your personal experience are integrated to gain a new understanding of trauma and how the nervous system responds to it. Gradually, each module brings skills to identify trauma dynamics, tools to support the nervous system and opportunities to have an embodied experience in first person. All this in a very caring and supportive environment held by an experienced team of assistants who will be accompanying the group in their learning.
Whether you are a counsellor, a yoga teacher, a mirimiri and romiromi practitioner, a doctor, a psychotherapist, an educator, or any of the professions listed in the pre-requisites, SE is for you. The SE approach offers a framework to assess where a person is “stuck” in the fight, flight, or freeze responses and provides clinical tools to resolve these fixated physiological states. If you want to enhance your skills in working with traumatised or stressed clients, consider joining the cohort starting in October.
If you would like to learn more about SE™ and get a sense of how the training will run, we have Introductory workshops coming up in September.
In these four-hour workshops you will learn skills and tools that can be applied immediately both professionally and personally. They are practical and experiential, where the learning happens through personal experience.
