Nutrition and Mental Wellbeing: Clinical Applications for Mental Health Professionals

If you are keen to learn more about the rapidly growing field of nutrition and mental wellbeing and how to integrate this into your practice within scope as a mental health professional, join us at an in-person workshop in Rotorua or Auckland. 

Part One: The Evidence 

We will explore:

• Where nutrition fits into mental health care
• The studies in this field over time
• Research on the relationships between nutrition, stress and trauma

Part Two: The Mechanisms

As this field is rapidly developing, many mechanisms by which nutrition can affect mental health are being discussed and researched. In this section we will cover:

• What we know about the role of nutrition in brain and nervous system structure and function
• Mechanisms that are known and those currently being further explored in research
• Common nutritional deficiencies in New Zealand and their potential impacts on mental health

Part Three: Clinical Applications

In this session we explore what the information covered means for us as mental health clinicians and how we can make the best use of it within our scopes of practice.

Clinical applications in different client populations are described and discussed, with resources provided and potential referral pathways outlined where indicated. 

You will come away from the workshop with clear, easy to apply knowledge and tools to support your clients (including education handouts!)
